UI professors named Fellows of American Statistical Association

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Kung-Sik Chan and Dale L. Zimmerman, professors of statistics in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, were named Fellows of the American Statistical Association (ASA) during the association's Aug. 5-9 Joint Statistical Meetings in Atlanta.

The awards were given for outstanding service and leadership in the field of statistical science. Founded in Boston in 1839, the ASA is the second oldest professional society in the country and is composed of some 18,000 members.

Chan, who received his doctorate from Princeton University in 1986 and joined the UI faculty in 1991, has research interests in time series analysis, chaos and other areas. Zimmerman, who received his doctorate from Iowa State University in 1986 and joined the UI faculty the same year, has research interests in spatial statistics, linear models and other fields.
