'Riverdance' sets new Hancher Auditorium ticket-sales-revenue record before opening

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Riverdance -- The Show," which will be performed eight times May 2-6 in the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium, has already set the auditorium’s all-time ticket-sales-revenue record. At the end of sales on April 25, the Hancher box office reported that "Riverdance" ticket revenues stood at $864,328 -- easily eclipsing the $825,571 in gross ticket sales for the most recent run of the musical "Les Miserables."

The first run of "Rent" slipped to third place, with a final total of $804,280 in ticket sales.

At the closing of the box office on April 25, a few tickets were still available for each "Riverdance" performance, with by far the best selection of seats available for the Thursday matinee.
