Sorofman appointed president of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Bernard Sorofman, Ph.D., associate professor of clinical
and administrative pharmacy at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy,
will be installed as president of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and
Science for the 2000-01 term at the American Pharmaceutical Association's
(APhA) annual meeting. Sorofman also became a member of the APhA's Board of
Sorofman said he has been working on defining specific scientific processes
that can inform health care policy through research. As president, he said
he plans to address the two main areas that need to be researched and understood
by the organization: patient safety and the national shortage of pharmacists.
Sorofman was also named associate dean for Academic Affairs in the UI College
of Pharmacy, effective July 1. He will replace Lloyd Matheson, Ph.D., who
held the position for more than 10 years.
A UI faculty member since 1984, Sorofman also has served as university ombudsperson
since July 1999. He was also one of 16 faculty member recipients of the UI
2000-01 Collegiate Teaching Awards.
Sorofman earned a B.S. in pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma in 1979
and a Ph.D. in social administrative pharmacy from the University of Minnesota
