Release: April 13, 2001

WHAT: University of Iowa accepts proposals for non-alcoholic activities

WHEN: Monday, April 16, 12:30 p.m.

WHERE: Directly outside of Quizno's/Taco Bell inside the Old Capitol Center.

Phillip Jones, University of Iowa vice president for student services and dean of students, will provide information about proposals he has accepted for creating non-alcoholic, late night social and cultural venues for UI students. The proposals stem from two community forums that Jones held in March. Those forums were designed to solicit ideas from the community on how the university can partner with private enterprise to provide late night activities.

Jones will discuss the proposals that have been accepted and how they will be funded. Students from United Voices for Alcohol Alternatives and representatives for the private businesses will be available to answer questions.
