UI's Albright to receive sports medicine award

IOWA CITY, Iowa – John P. Albright, M.D., professor of orthopaedics at University of Iowa Health Care, will receive the prestigious George D. Rovere Award for Education on July 1, during the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s (AOSSM) annual meeting in Keystone, Colo.

The George D. Rovere Award for Education is given annually to an individual in recognition of his or her contributions to sports medicine education. "I am honored to be recognized by my peers and to join the group of eminent individuals who have received this award in the past," Albright said.

Formed in 1972, the AOSSM is a national organization of orthopaedic surgeons specializing in sports medicine, including national and international sports medicine leaders. The AOSSM works closely with many other sports medicine specialists and clinicians, including family physicians, emergency physicians, pediatricians, athletic trainers, and physical therapists to improve the identification, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries.

The group currently has more than 1,400 members. For more information about the AOSSM, visit
