'Alumni at Last' celebration offer one-stop services for graduates

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Graduating students not only can buy caps and gowns at the "Alumni at Last" celebration Monday, April 23 at the Iowa Memorial Union, but can take advantage of many other services to prepare for commencement and beyond.

"Alumni at Last," sponsored by the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) in cooperation with University of Iowa Book Store (UIBS), will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the East lobby of the IMU.

The commencement unit of the UI Registrar's Office will be there to answer questions about specifics of commencement ceremonies, and offer tips on what to wear, and provide times of the 10 graduation ceremonies across the university.

The UI Business and Liberal Arts Placement Office (BLAPO) and Career Development Services will also be there to answer any last minute questions about job placement and interviewing.

The UIBS will be the outlet selling caps and gowns, along with rings, diploma frames and class rings.

In addition to those services, Jostens will take senior pictures and Graduate Admissions will also be at the event to answer last minute questions.

The first 500 seniors through the door will receive their tassel free and a free gift from the UIAA. The UIAA will also be offering Alumni Association memberships at a discount price and information on Alumni Career Services, volunteer opportunities and Iowa Clubs located across the United States.

Although invitations have been sent to more than 3,000 students, any student who is graduating is welcome to attend.

For additional information or questions, contact Assistant Director of Alumni Programs Julie Williams of the UIAA at 335-3854
