College of Law celebrates First Monday
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Law will mark Monday,
Oct. 2, the day the Supreme Court returns to the bench and a day that honors
the practice and practitioners of public interest law with a public discussion
on gun violence. The discussion will take place at 4 p.m. in the Fourth Floor
student lounge of the Boyd Law Building.
The Alliance for Justice, a Washington, D.C.-based group, coordinates First
Monday events nationally and has produced in cooperation with Physicians for
Social Responsibility, "America: Up in Arms" a video on gun violence
to be shown at the College of Law discussion.
Panelists at the First Monday discussion will be Judge Sue Flaherty, associate
juvenile court judge for the Sixth Judicial District, Janet Lyness, assistant
Johnson County Attorney, Dick Klausner, chief Public Defender for Johnson,
Iowa, and Muscatine counties, and UI Law Professor Randall Bezanson.
