Live broadcast of Feldman's 'WhadYa Know?' Sept. 23
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Host Michael Feldman brings his nationally broadcast public
radio show, "Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?" to Hancher Auditorium
at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.
Feldman combines his quick thinking with comedy, interviews, call-ins, entertainment,
and audience participation for the two-hour live show, which will be aired
on the University of Iowa's public radio station WSUI 910 AM.
"Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?" is a comedy/quiz/interview show
during which host and quizmaster Michael Feldman will invite callers and audience
members to compete for prizes at the local appearance. They can win six-packs
of root beer or beer from the Millstone and Stone City breweries, sorghum
from Stringtown Grocery near Kalona, books from UI Press, novelty pigs from
Iowa City's Fun Zone, and tickets from the Old Creamery Theater of Amana.
Contestants answer questions drawn from Feldman's seemingly limitless store
of insignificant (but also, somehow, important) information.
Regular elements of every program include a Whad'Ya Know? quiz in each hour,
an offbeat interview with someone not making the headlines, jazz with John
Thulin, Clyde Stubblefield and Jeff Eckels, and banter with sidekick Jim Packard.
Feldman opens each broadcast with "All the News That Isn't," a brief
monologue filled with his entertaining brand of political and social satire.
The show also includes local guests and a musical guest from the Iowa City
area (to be announced.)
"This will be a great show for our listeners. It's an interactive show
that's very humorous Feldman really gets involved with audiences and
talks with them," said Lockett Ford Ballard, marketing manager for KSUI/WSUI.
Each week over 1.4 million listeners tune in to "Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya
Know?" on more than 300 public radio stations across the United States,
including WSUI on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Since 1985 Feldman, a former high school
teacher, has been broadcasting his show from Madison, Wis. Eight times each
year, Feldman takes his show on the road for live broadcasts from cities across
the United States. During the past year "Whad'Ya Know?" broadcasts
have filled theaters in Richmond, Ky., Sacramento, Calif. and South Bend,
Ind. Audiences should prepare themselves for a host who does his homework
about the Iowa City area. Before each broadcast from the road, Feldman and
his staff gather information about the area concerning local people and news,
allowing him to connect with the audience.
"Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?" is produced by Wisconsin Public
Radio and distributed by Public Radio International. Check out "Michael
Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?" on the web at www.notmuch.com. The Broadcast
from Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City is part of WSUIs campaign to bring
public radio personalities to eastern Iowa and closer to public radio listeners.
Tickets for the two-hour broadcast are $25. $30 and $35. The purchase of
a $65 ticket is also available, which allows prime seating at the show plus
admission to a post-show reception where guests can meet Feldman and the "Whad'Ya
Know?" cast and crew. A donation to KSUI and WSUI radio will be included
with the purchase of the $65 ticket.
For tickets for the live broadcast, call the Hancher Auditorium Box Office
at 1-800-HANCHER or (319) 335-1160. Limited seats are still available. Audiences
