Women's Center offers workshop on socially responsible investing

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Women's Resource and Action Center along with the Iowa Women's Foundation and the Iowa City Public Library will offer "Putting Your Money Where Your Mind Is: Financial Empowerment & Socially Responsible Investing" on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from
6:30-8:30 p.m. in Meeting Room A of the Iowa City Public Library.

Barbara Krumsiek of Calvert Group will present the workshop. She is president and CEO of Calvert Group and one of the few women in the financial services industry to lead a mutual fund company. Krumsiek was also recently voted one of the "100 Most Powerful Women" in the Washington, D.C., area by Washingtonian Magazine.

The workshop is designed to encourage participants to make their investments reflect their personal values, while still investing for financial gain. Topics will include criteria for screening potential investments and the theories of socially responsible investing. Participants of all income levels and investing experience are invited to attend.

This workshop is part of the 2000-2001 Women and Money Workshop Series made possible in part by support from the Altrusa Club of Iowa City and Lois James at Raymond James Financial Services.

Other workshops in the series include "Budgeting Issues: Credit, Debt Reduction" on Oct. 19 and "Living Your Values Through Your Checkbook: Socially Responsible Shopping" on Nov. 14. All workshops will be held at the Iowa City Public Library. Although the workshops in this series are developed for women, men are welcome to attend.
