Thieves Market art sale at IMU Oct. 21-22

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Thieves Market, the classic fall art sale at the University of Iowa, takes place Oct. 21-22 at the Iowa Memorial Union where artisans from across the country will display for sale their handmade sculptures, paintings, jewelry and other artworks.

The Thieves Market is Saturday, Oct. 21 from noon to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The UI Fine Arts Council, which is sponsoring the art sale, also sponsors student arts grants given to students undertaking original works.

An estimated 75 artists are expected to present their works, which will also include photographs, and woodcarvings. The Thieves Market features reasonably priced works, which is one of the reasons the fall event has been a crowd attraction at the UI for 28 years, says Shannon Melsha, student and director of the Thieves Market.
