UISG co-sponsors Iowa/Michigan State alcohol-free tailgate

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Hawkeye fans can park and party alcohol-free for this Saturday's homecoming game against Michigan State beginning at 9 a.m. in Lot 14, south of Slater Residence Hall. University of Iowa Student Government (UISG), Associated Residence Halls (ARH), and ROTC will be serving up free hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, pop and Blue Bunny ice cream.

The pre-game celebration will include volleyball, space walk, and human darts, with music provided by Murphy Sound. "This Stepping Up tailgate event is open to everyone: students, adult fans and their children," said Julie Phye, coordinator of the Stepping Up Project. "And you don't have to park in Lot 14 to participate in our tailgate,"

Lot 14 is located at the northeast corner of Melrose and Grand Avenues and is UI's designated alcohol-free lot. Football parking is available in all UI lots beginning at 7 a.m. for
$5 per car. Game time this Saturday is 11:05 a.m.

Sponsorship for Lot 14 alcohol-free tailgates is through the Stepping Up Project, a community and campus coalition to reduce the harmful effects of excessive drinking, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation's largest health care philanthropy.
