UI Hancher box office has holiday gift certificates perfect for arts lovers, through Dec. 16

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Hancher Auditorium box office at the University of Iowa is prepared for the holidays, with gift certificates and tickets for the lovers of music, theater and dance on anyone’s gift list. But because the Hancher box office will close at the end of the business day Dec. 16 for the UI winter break, you can’t wait until the last minute!

Hancher gift certificates, available in multiples of $5, may be redeemed during the next year for tickets to any of the UI performances handled by the Hancher box office. This includes not only the internationally renowned music, theater and dance artists presented by the auditorium, but also all the Mainstage productions of University Theatres, major productions of UI Opera Theater and the Old Gold Singers, the UI Dance Company’s annual Dance Gala and the UI Band Extravaganza.

For gift-givers who know exactly what performances their recipients have been dreaming about, the box office will provide tickets to specific events during the remainder of the 2000-2001 season. Among the spring 2001 Hancher events that promise to be popular choices are "Riverdance," the Broadway hits "Ragtime" and "Chicago," the Japanese drummers of Kodo, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Mingus Big Band, Philadanco during Martin Luther King Week, the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, and Aeros, featuring members of the Romanian gymnastics team.

Hancher box office hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. From the local calling area, dial (319) 335-1160. Long distance is toll-free, 1-800-HANCHER. Fax to (319) 353-2284. Orders may be charged to VISA, MasterCard or American Express. UI students may charge their purchases to their university bills, and UI faculty and staff may select the option of payroll deduction.

Information and brochures may be requested by e-mail at <>.

People with special needs for access, seating and auxiliary services should dial (319) 335-1158. This number will be answered by box office personnel prepared to offer assistance with handicapped parking, wheelchair access and seating, hearing augmentation and other services. The line is equipped with TDD for people with hearing impairment who use that technology.
