UI SBDC launches statewide e-business training program
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Small Business Development Center
(SBDC) will present an interactive e-business training workshop in Coralville
Thursday, Nov. 16 as part of a statewide e-business training initiative sponsored
by the state SBDC organization.
The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Gold Room in Oakdale
Hall at the UI's Oakdale Campus.
"For 20 years, SBDC business advisors have been helping Iowa entrepreneurs
start and grow small businesses. This program will expand those services and
offer small businesses e-business advice and assistance from a resource they've
grown to trust," said Paul Heath, Director of the UI SBDC.
Through the workshops, participants will learn e-business basics, including
how to define e-business objectives and evaluate technology options, how to
find and choose a Web development partner and how to make money through e-business
strategies other than e-commerce. They also will learn how to identify and
alleviate risks associated with privacy, security, and employee use of technology
and how to determine return on investment.
"The workshops are intended to show small businesses what's possible
for their businesses through technology," said Heath. "At the end
of the day, they'll walk away with some strategies they can immediately employ
to boost profits, increase efficiency and positively affect their bottom line."
The workshop is $89 in advance and $99 at the door. The registration fee
includes lunch and refreshments. In addition, workshop attendees can sign
up for one-on-one e-business mentoring for just $149, which includes the workshop
fee. Mentoring participants will receive on-site e-business counseling by
an SBDC business advisor.
The program is sponsored by the SBDC in conjunction with the Center for
Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS), the Iowa Manufacturing Extension
Partnership (IMEP), Software and Information Technology of Iowa (SITI), and
