'Hiring Smart' seminar is May 23

IOWA CITY, Iowa --The founder of an eastern Iowa business consulting company will lead a half-day seminar on May 23 on ways small businesses can improve their hiring process.

Jack Ulmer, founder of Ulmer and Associates, will lead the UI Small Business Development Center seminar, "The New Art of Hiring Smart," from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 23 in Room S401 of the Pappajohn Business Building.

Seminar topics include components and problems in the traditional hiring process, identifying hiring problems, conducting interviews, the true cost of turnover, innovative prospecting techniques, using background checks, and job matching.

Ulmer has 27 years of experience as a human resource professional. He founded Ulmer and Associates in 1988 after serving as compensation and benefits manager at Norand Corporation.
