Local UI student receives Barry Freeman Memorial Fellowship

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Student name), a (year) student at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, has been chosen to travel abroad next year as a recipient of a Barry Freeman Memorial Fellowship. (Student name) will receive the award to study in (city, country).

The Barry Freeman Fellowship Fund was created through the UI Foundation by the family of Barry Freeman, who was a medical student at the time of his death in 1972. The fellowship fund gives UI medical students the opportunity to expand their understanding of health care in other countries. Since 1982, more than 130 students have participated in other countries' medical programs under the assistance of the fellowship.
