UI premier dance troupe performs at free UI Libraries event

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Dancers in Company, a UI dance tour ensemble, will perform excerpts from its regular season program at noon April 5 as part of a Friends of the University of Iowa Libraries public lecture event.

The performance, which will consist of choreographed movements that have earned Dancers in Company international recognition, will take place at the Main Library North Exhibition Hall and will include a lecture and demonstration by members of the company. Dancers in Company is the UI's premier dance tour troupe, and its members, students at the UI Dance Department, are led in the 2000 tour by co-artistic directors Armando Duarte and Charlotte Adams.

The demonstration is presented in association with the UI Libraries exhibit "Celebrating Dance! Documenting Dance!" on display now through May in the North Exhibition Hall at the Main Library.

Dancers in Company has performed in seven states and in Hong Kong at the 1990 International Dance Festival. Their 2000 tour is supported in part through a grant from the US West Foundation, one of the largest corporate foundations in the western United States.

The Friends of the University of Iowa Libraries is an association of individuals committed to the enrichment and growth of the University Libraries. Established in 1964, it is one of the oldest such organizations affiliated with a university library.
