Pudovkin's silent film 'Mother' to be screened March 23

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Institute for Cinema and Culture's ongoing seminar "Fourteen Weeks of Nostalgia for the Early Days of Feature Films" offers weekly screenings of silent films with live musical accompaniment.

The next screening, on Thursday, March 23, following spring break, will be of Vsevolod Pudovkin's "Mother" with live accompaniment by René Lecuona, an associate professor in the UI School of Music. Screenings are at 7 p.m. Thursdays through the end of the semester (with the exception of March 16 and 30) in Room 101 of the Becker Communication Studies Building.

A discussion follows each film. The screenings are free and open to the public.
