UI Human Rights Committee plans March 6 public forum on sweatshop issue
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Committee on Human Rights is inviting
comments from members of the university community on the development of a
position against the use of labor sweatshops for the production of garments
and athletic gear with University of Iowa logos.
The University of Iowa Committee on Human Rights is a different entity from
the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights (UICHR), which has announced
today its own position on the sweatshop issue.
A public forum to discuss the issue will be Monday, March 6 from 5:30 to
7 p.m. in the Richey Ballroom (formerly the Triangle Ballroom) on the third
floor of the Iowa Memorial Union.
In addition to accepting comments at the forum, interested persons can mail
comments to the Human Rights Committee, c/o 114 Jessup Hall, Iowa City, IA
52242; or e-mail comments to committee chair Laraine Carmichael Nelson at
