Women's Center offers workshop on 'Burnout in the Helping Professions'

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) will offer "Burnout in the Helping Professions," from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in the Lucas-Dodge Room of the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus. The workshop, sponsored jointly by WRAC and the UI Counseling Psychology Program, will address the phenomenon of vicarious traumatization. The presentation is designed to aid people working in helping professions cope effectively with their reactions to working with people who have experienced traumatic events in their lives.

Sarah Fraley, a doctoral student in the UI Counseling Psychology program, will lead a panel discussion with local professionals and present some strategies for self-care. The workshop is free of charge and open to the public. No pre-registration is required to attend.
