UI summer commencement exercises to be held July 28

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Two commencement ceremonies will bring down the curtain on the summer 2000 academic session at the University of Iowa on Friday, July 28. Doctoral and master's degrees will be conferred at a 2 p.m. ceremony in Hancher Auditorium. Bachelor's degrees will be awarded at a 7:30 p.m. ceremony, also at Hancher.

There are1,100 degree candidates this summer, including 668 undergraduates and 432 graduate students. Phillip Jones, vice president for student services and dean of students, will confer degrees at the graduate commencement. UI President Mary Sue Coleman will confer degrees at the undergraduate ceremony.

Seating for the undergraduate ceremony is reserved. Students need to pick up tickets they have reserved for family and friends between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 19-21 at the Office of the Registrar, Room 1, Jessup Hall (Window D). The 2 p.m. graduate commencement is open to the public; no tickets are required.
