Car seat safety checks are available in Williamsburg

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Area parents and family members can have free car seat-safety checks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at Charles Capper Auto Center in Williamsburg.

Michelle Malloy, pediatric nurse-practitioner at Marengo Medical Center and UI Family Care Center, Belle Plaine, is a certified car seat-safety technician and will check children's car seats to make sure each is secure and protective. According to recent statistics, four out of five car seats are put in incorrectly. A child’s car seat cannot be protective if it is not installed properly.

The event is sponsored by General Motors, in conjunction with the Safe Kids Coalition of Iowa, Charles Capper Auto Center and University of Iowa Health Care.

For more information or to schedule an appointment for a car seat-safety check, call the Marengo Medical Center at (319) 642-5213.
