Touring UI Dancers in Company presents 'home' concerts March 3-4

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Dancers in Company, the touring repertory ensemble of the University of Iowa dance department, will present their annual "home" concerts at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, in the Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall.

The performances -- the first Dancers in Company concerts in Space/Place since the installations of new theatrical seating in the hall -- will launch a busy season of performances and educational activities for Dancers in Company. The schedule includes "field trip" events on the UI campus for school groups, and performances and/or discussions in Waterloo, Iowa City, Council Bluffs, Orange City and Bettendorf during March and April.

The 12-member ensemble, which is chosen by audition, provides UI dance students with practical experience similar to that encountered by professional touring dance companies. The student dancers have to maintain a diverse repertory while coping with travel and performing in a variety of facilities. Co-directors of the company are faculty members Armando Duarte and Charlotte Adams.

The Dancers in Company repertory features a wide variety of dance styles, from ballet to modern dance to ethnic movement, including dances selected especially for educational events with young audiences.

Tickets for the Dancers in Company home concerts will be $5 ($4 for UI students, senior citizens and youth) at the door. North Hall is located at the north end of Madison Street on the UI campus. It is accessible from both Madison Street and the Anne Cleary Walk. Parking is available in the North Campus Parking Ramp.

Dancers in Company tours under the auspices of the UI Arts Share program. Arts Share is a UI program that provides artistic expertise from the Iowa Center for the Arts to schools, local arts councils, community arts associations, museums, senior citizen centers and other organizations throughout Iowa and the surrounding region. The Arts Share roster of touring artists includes nearly 100 faculty members, ensembles, and graduate students in the performing, visual and literary arts.

TARGET and USWest are corporate sponsors of Dancers in Company educational and touring activities.
