Nominees sought for eighth annual Jean Y. Jew Women's Rights Award

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Council on the Status of Women and the Women's Resource and Action Center invite nominations for the eighth annual Jean Y. Jew Women's Rights Award, which honors a University of Iowa student, staff or faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding effort or achievement in improving the status of women at the University of Iowa.

Nominations are due Friday, Feb. 18. The award will be presented at the "Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women" March 28.

Jew is a professor of anatomy at the University of Iowa College of Medicine who fought and won precedent-setting sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits against the university. This award acknowledges and honors Jew and the members of the university community who demonstrated their support for her.

The criteria for selecting the award recipient include a strong record of support for women's rights, a commitment to women's rights at the University of Iowa, and one or more of the following related to women's rights: particular contributions to the University of Iowa; accomplishments with national scope or impact; a long-standing record of leadership, effort, and activism.

Submit nominations to Jean Lantz, UI College of Medicine, 114 CMAB, in a packet containing the following:

-- a statement of up to 2 pages from the nominator explaining the nominee's qualifications for the award including a list of the nominee's accomplishments

-- the nominee's current resume or curriculum vita

-- up to three one-page letters from other individuals that elaborate or expand on contributions listed in the nominee's resume or vita

Also provide the following information about the nominator and the nominee: name, position, campus address, campus phone, home address and home phone.

If you would like to re-nominate an individual who was previously nominated, please submit updated supporting documents by the due date.
