UI Law students compete in regional trial advocacy competition

IOWA CITY — Six third-year University of Iowa College of Law students have earned the right to represent the UI at a regional trial advocacy competition against students from various Midwest universities Feb. 11-13 in Kansas City, Mo.

Students Justin Allen, Marc Beltrame, Rockne Cole, Tom Ksobiech, Chris Lambert and Mary Prescott, will argue the merits of a civil court case at the competition to be held at the Whittaker U.S. Federal Courthouse.

Last fall, Ksobiech and Prescott each won $500 for being named the best trial advocates in the annual Stephenson Competition, the qualifying event that makes up the UI's trial advocacy teams.

John Whiston, clinical professor, UI College of Law, coaches the UI team and says the regional and national competitions are opportunities for UI law students to showcase their talents and professional development.

The university team that wins the February competition represents the region at a national competition March 31 — April 1 in Dallas, Texas.
