Barnes and Noble selects UI Press author for new writers program

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Elizabeth Oness, the 2000 winner of the Iowa Short Fiction Award, has been selected for the Barnes and Noble Winter 2001 "Discover Great New Writers" program for her short story "Articles of Faith," says Megan J. Scott, publicist, University of Iowa Press. The UI Press is publisher of "Articles of Faith," an eight-story collection that has been reviewed favorably by national book critics.

"'Articles of Faith' heralds a fine new voice… Oness is a highly skilled writer whose stories are freighted with unique messages and perspectives," raves Publishers Weekly. "So skillful is Oness at creating realistic voices that we never doubt her authority," applauds the Ruminator Review.

"'Discover Great Writers' is sponsored by Barnes and Noble Booksellers. Each season publishers recommend debut authors to Barnes and Noble. The company then chooses the most impressive new works each season to be recommended to customers," Scott said.

"Articles of Faith" (152-pages, ISBN 0-87745-726-3), published last September, is available at bookstores or by calling 1-800-621-2736 or (319) 335-2008. For review copies or additional information, contact Megan J. Scott at or visit the UI Press Web site at
