Information session set for UI graduate and certificate programs in public
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Public Health will
hold an information session on the master of public health (M.P.H.) degree
and certificate in public health from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7.
The information session will be conducted at sites in Cedar Falls, Cedar
Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport and Des Moines via the Iowa Communications
Network (ICN), the interactive fiber optic telecommunications network linking
educational sites across the state. A list of site locations is provided below.
Jack Barnette, associate dean for education and student affairs and director
of the M.P.H. program in the UI College of Public Health, will lead the session.
Topics to be covered include overviews of the programs, course schedules,
admission and related support services. Time will also be provided to answer
Beginning in spring 2001, coursework leading to the M.P.H. degree and the
certificate in public health will be offered at selected off-campus locations
via the ICN and World Wide Web.
ICN courses that will be offered in spring 2001 are:
-- "Problems in Public Health: Tobacco Prevention and Control,"
two semester hours, on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m., and one semester hour to
be arranged, taught by professors Paul Pomrehn and John Lowe;
-- "Problems in Public Health: Public Health Program Management,"
three semester hours, on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., and one semester hour
to be arranged, taught by Professor Chris Atchison.
One Web-based course, "Epidemiology I," will also be offered.
The information session is co-sponsored by the UI College of Public Health
and the UI Division of Continuing Education/Center for Continuing Education.
