UI Family Care, Southeast Iowa City to open Dec. 4

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa Health Care will open its new family care office in southeast Iowa City on Monday, Dec. 4. UI Family Care, Southeast Iowa City, is located at 1130 Scott Blvd.

The new facility offers a full range of health care services and has free, convenient parking and radiology and laboratory facilities. The clinic will be staffed by four family medicine physicians, including a specialist in geriatric medicine.

"I am delighted that this state-of-the-art family care clinic is opening," said Cynda Johnson, M.D., professor and head of the UI department of family medicine. "The addition of this site will enhance our delivery of high quality health care to families by increasing access to our conveniently located family care centers, improving continuity of care and providing more flexibility in the use and sharing of resources."

The physicians who will practice at UI Family Care, Southeast Iowa City, include: Adelaide Gurwell, M.D., Michael Jurgens, M.D., Matthew Lanternier, M.D. and Michael Maharry, M.D. Health care for all ages is offered; Lanternier specializes in health care for seniors. Clinic hours are
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments may be made by calling (319) 339-7472.

The four physicians, all University of Iowa Health Care faculty, previously provided services at other Johnson county sites, including UI Family Care Center, Coralville, and UI Family Care Center, UI Hospitals and Clinics. The Coralville office as well as UI Family Care, Mormon Trek, ceased operations as of Dec. 1.

In a related move, Leslie Riley, M.D., internist, and Rayna Jobe, M.D., family physician, previously at the Mormon Trek office, are now offering services at UI Family Care Center, North Liberty. They both have special interest in women's health.

The new UI Family Care office in southeast Iowa City and others in North Liberty and Lone Tree are managed by University of Iowa Community Medical Services, Inc., a separate UI Health System organization that manages a network of primary clinics throughout central and eastern Iowa.
