NBC-TV's Max Weinberg opens 2000-01 UI lecture season

IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Lecture Committee will kick off its 2000-01 free public lecture season Monday, Aug. 28 with Max Weinberg, former E Street Band drummer, at
7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.

Weinberg, now music director of the Max Weinberg Seven band with NBC-TV's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," talk show will use media clips and personal anecdotes to recall his years with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and with his current talk show band.

Weinberg was cited by the "Playboy" Pop and Jazz Music Poll in 1985, and a year later by "Rolling Stone" Critics Poll as Best Drummer. He has played on the first and second largest selling albums in rock music history with performances on "Born in the U.S.A" by Springsteen and the E Street Band and "Bat Out of Hell," recorded by Meatloaf.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the UI Lecture Committee at (319) 335-3255.
