IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A physician with extensive experience in exposing quackery and nutrition fraud will be available to meet with local reporters Wednesday, Aug. 23.

John Renner, M.D., is a clinical professor of family medicine at the University of Missouri, an adjunct professor of preventive medicine at the University of Kansas College of Medicine and president of the National Council for Reliable Health Information.

Renner has served as a consultant on alternative medicine for the Food and Drug Administration and is currently the chief medical officer for HealthSCOUT, a well-known Web site for consumers and health professionals. He has extensive experience in helping people separate fact from fiction when it comes to nutrition and health.

Renner will address University of Iowa College of Medicine faculty, medical students and dietitians at the UI Hospitals and Clinics Wednesday, Aug. 23.
