No charges are filed in case of Coralville bus-pedestrian accident
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa department of public safety announced
today that no charges would be filed in the wake of a Feb. 3 bus-pedestrian
accident following a Hawkeye basketball game. Following is the complete statement
from the department:
"The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS), with assistance
from the Iowa City Police Department, has concluded the investigation involving
a Coralville Transit bus and a pedestrian on Newton Road on the night of Feb.

DPS and the Johnson County Attorney's Office have reviewed the known facts
of the incident, as ascertained from statements made by several witnesses
and observations of the scene. These facts include the location of incident;
volume of pedestrian traffic in the area at the time; weather and road conditions;
road markings; and actions taken by the bus driver, the injured individual
and other pedestrians at the scene, both before and after the accident.
There is no clear indication of how the bus and the injured individual came
into contact. Neither the injured individual nor the bus driver violated laws
governing their respective responsibilities in the situation."
