Iowa City's annual KidFest is April 29-30

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- RiverFest will be fun for all ages this year with KidFest making its third appearance at the annual event. Kids and their parents can enjoy the booths, entertainment, and events that make up KidFest as families explore Rollin' on the RiverFest 2000.

KidFest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be in Hubbard Park, next to the Iowa Memorial Union. In case of rain, KidFest will move indoors to the Second Floor Ballroom in the Iowa Memorial Union.

KidFest offers a variety of activities for kids, such as sand-art tables, a tie-dye booth, balloon creations, painting booths, and a spring planting booth where kids can plant their own flower. There will also be science demonstrations throughout the day, storytellers, and a juggler. Budding artists should practice their coloring skills for the coloring contest!

On your mark, get set, go! Adults are not the only ones who can run a race. Children 12 and under can compete in a 50-yard dash to be held after RiverRun at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Kids should bring their favorite running shoes, a good attitude, and be ready to race!

KidFest is a great, inexpensive way for families to spend time together, said Audrey Rogus, director of KidFest, noting that most of the activities are free. "KidFest is a great opportunity for kids to get outside and enjoy themselves," she said, adding that RiverFest has something for everyone in the family, and KidFest is just one of its many activities.
