University, community members are invited to ‘Walk the Walk’ rally April 11

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Members of the University of Iowa and local community are invited to participate in a "Walk the Walk" rally on Tuesday, April 11 to support students, faculty and staff at the UI College of Dentistry who have been subject to threatening and racist e-mails. Participants will gather at 11:45 a.m. on the lawn west of Old Capitol and then walk to the Dental Science Building for a celebration of diversity.

Members of graduate students in the UI department of anthropology, the UI Student Government, Graduate and Professional Student Senate, and students in the College of Dentistry are organizing "Walk the Walk."

"We invite other student groups and people from our entire community to participate," said Jacqueline Comito, an anthropology graduate student. "Participants are welcome to bring signs of support, but mostly we encourage people to participate. We appreciate people who are willing to talk the talk when it comes to celebrating diversity, but on this day we also want to walk the walk."

For more information, call Comito at (319) 466-1665.
