UI's Judith R. Brown elected chair of international computer graphics organization

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa computer research group manager Judith R. Brown has been elected chair of ACM SIGGRAPH, the largest and most highly respected international professional society for computer graphics and interactive techniques.

SIGGRAPH, which is currently celebrating its 30th year, sponsors an annual international conference attended by more than 40,000 people, as well as many other educational and professional activities throughout the year. SIGGRAPH is active in educational development and publishes the world's leading research and technical computer graphics content. Brown has previously served the organization as vice chair, director for education, and chair of the public policy committee and other committees.

Brown is manager of Advanced Research Computing Services (ARCS), a research facility in the University of Iowa's Information Technology Services that supports parallel and high performance computing, visualization, virtual reality, and high performance network applications. She is a fellow of Eurographics, the European computer graphics society, and an honorable member of the Academic Committee to the State Key Lab for computer graphics and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, a unique Chinese National Lab for the support of Computer Graphics and Computer-Aided Design. Brown is co-author of four books and a frequently invited speaker on computer graphics education, visualization and collaboration.
