UI Museum of Natural History sponsors Oct. 3 mushroom photography program

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History will sponsor a program titled "Award Winning Mushroom Photography" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 in Room 112 of Macbride Hall.

The program, part of the Museum's "Afternoon With a Scientist" public education and lecture series, will be presented by Nature photographer and mycologist Dean Abel. Abel will present the winning slides from the 1999 North American Mycological Association (NAMA) photo contest recently held in Cape Girardeau, Mo. and offer tips for nature photographers. Abel, co-author of "A Guide to Kansas Mushrooms," combines his passion for mycology with photography by serving as chair of the NAMA Photography Committee and director of the group's annual photo contest.

The program is free and open to the public. For further information or to be placed on the museum's mailing list, contact David Brenzel, program coordinator, at 335-0482 or at
