MEDIA ADVISORY: New patient simulator in department of anesthesia

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Specialists in the University of Iowa department of anesthesia will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 to demonstrate a new, state-of-the-art patient simulator.

The $250,000 system will enhance the training of specialists in anesthesiology. The sophisticated simulator mimics a vast range of conditions that may affect patients in the operating room. The system is one of the few of its kind in the Midwest.

Specialists will be on hand to demonstrate the simulator and discuss its benefits. The open house will be held in the Della Ruppert Conference Room (Room 6612-2 JCP). Take Elevator "H" in the John Colloton Pavilion to the sixth floor to attend the open house. For assistance in covering this event, contact either Jim Lane in the UI department of anesthesia at (319) 384-8074 or Tom Moore in the Joint Office for Planning, Marketing and Communications at (319) 356-3945.
