Lesbian Reading Group begins at Women's Center Sept. 9

IOWA CITY, Iowa — A discussion group for lesbians to have a safe, comfortable environment to discuss various books begins Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa.

The "Lesbian Reading Group" focuses on empowering lesbian women to learn from each other and to provide a sense of community among group members. "There are so few safe places in town for lesbians to meet on a regular basis, relax, have coffee and engage in thought provoking conversation," says Keri Neblett, support group coordinator for the Women's Center.

The six-week group will meet Thursdays at the Women's Center, across from the Iowa Memorial Union, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Please call 335-1486 for more information or to register.

The Lesbian Reading Group facilitator, Bridget Malone, has a degree in Latin American literature with an emphasis in women writers. Malone will provide suggested readings, and group members can also choose which books to read and discuss.
