Women’s Center offers annual Halloween Coffeehouse

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Special Halloween food, costume contest, "open mike" and performances by local musicians are planned for the University of Iowa Women’s Resource and Action Center’s annual Halloween Coffeehouse set for Friday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at 10 S. Gilbert Street.

Two UI students, local musician Betsy Siefert and local writer Liz Rolfsmeier, will perform songs and read poetry and prose.

The Coffeehouse audience and committee members will choose the winner and prize of the Halloween Costume contest.

"We want everyone to have a great time eating orange and black food, enjoying the performers, and showing off their costuming creativity," says Coffeehouse co-organizer Suzi Steffen.

The Coffeehouse will also feature its traditional "open mike"; women are welcome to read, perform, sing, dance or play music.

The Coffeehouse is free, but donations will be requested at the door. To sign up for "open mike" or for more information, please call the Women’s Center at 335-1486.
