‘Dealing With Depression’ support group begins Oct. 24 at Women’s Center

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- If you’re trying to cope with depression, you may wish to participate in a support group, "Dealing With Depression," offered by the University of Iowa Women’s Resource and Action Center, beginning Sunday, Oct. 24. The support group will meet for six consecutive Sundays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Women’s Center, across from the Iowa Memorial Union.

"Dealing With Depression" will focus on providing support to other people and learning how others cope with depression and stress on a daily basis, says the group’s facilitator, Kathleen Gibbon.

Gibbon is a UI psychology major and has firsthand knowledge of the impact that depression can have on one’s life. "I have been dealing with depression for about five years. I often find it hard to find someone to talk with openly about my problems," she notes.

The support group is also open to those who have coped with depression in the past.
