Drum appointed to National Science Foundation
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Charles S. Drum, director for campus
communications at the University of Iowa, will take a year's leave of absence
to serve as a public affairs specialist for the National Science Foundation
(NSF) in Washington, D.C.
The appointment was announced by Mary Hanson, section
head of Media Relations and Public Information in the NSF Office of Legislative
and Public Affairs.
Drum, a 25-year veteran in the UI Office of Communications
and Outreach, will assume his new duties in January. He will work with programs
in two NSF directorates: Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences and Education
and Human Resources.
The National Science Foundation is an independent
U.S. government agency responsible for promoting science and engineering through
programs that invest nearly $4 billion per year in almost 20,000 research
and education projects in science and engineering.
