UI engineer receives distinguished service award

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Victor G. J. Rodgers, associate professor of chemical and biochemical engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, recently received the 1999 Distinguished Service Award from the Minority Affairs Committee of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Rodgers was honored, in part, for his four years of service as chair of the committee, which sponsors urban outreach programs for elementary and middle schools. AIChE also provides scholarships to deserving students from traditionally under-represented groups in chemical engineering.

Rodgers, who came to the university in 1989, has long participated in activities designed to encourage minority participation in science and engineering along with his twin brother, Vincent G. J. Rodgers, who serves as associate professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Iowa.
