Women's Athletics sponsors food drive, Alford to attend tailgate

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Bring a canned food item to the alcohol-free tailgate and visit with Iowa basketball Coach Steve Alford at 9 a.m. this Saturday in Lot 14, UI's designated alcohol-free parking lot, behind Slater Hall at the northeast corner of Melrose and Grand avenues.

The canned food drive, sponsored by UI Women's Athletics, will benefit the Iowa City Crisis Center. The event is free and open to everyone including students and fans from the opposing team. Tailgaters don't need to park in lot 14 to attend.

Community co-sponsors of the Stepping Up event are Dain Rauscher and Mercy Hospital.

UI football parking lots open at 7 a.m. Parking is $5 per car in all UI lots. Game time on Saturday is 11:10 a.m.

The Stepping Up Project is a community and campus coalition to reduce high-risk drinking and is funded in part by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. For more information, call Julie Phye at (319) 335-1349.
