UI School of Journalism offers summer workshops for high school teachers

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communications will hold its annual summer journalism workshops for high school teachers in June and July.

The workshops aim to teach faculty how to enrich the journalism programs at their own schools through the guidance of a nationally recognized staff of professionals. Teachers can choose from nine workshops offered on selected dates between June 23 to July 30. The courses can be taken for graduate credit.

Among the programs available are courses in Adobe PhotoShop, publication design, yearbook advising, photojournalism, desktop design, newspaper advising and high school press law. A cultural awareness class and a teaching strategy class for journalism instructors also will be offered.

Tuition for the workshops is $184 per credit hour. Room costs are: $76.94 for a three-day workshop, $100.41 for a four-day workshop and $123.64 for a five-day workshop. Meals may be purchased on a per-meal basis.

Reservation forms must be received three weeks before the first day of the selected workshop. Reservation forms have been sent to high-school principals, journalism teachers and yearbook advisors. Additional forms are available upon request.
