UI Alumni Association makes two new appointments

IOWA CITY, Iowa –The University of Iowa Alumni Association recently filled two staff positions. Susan Griffith, who has worked for the Alumni Association since 1990, took over in March as its new director of alumni programs. Hired as an editorial assistant for the Alumni Association’s communications department almost nine years ago, Griffith advanced to editorial associate and later associate editor for the association. In 1998 she was named managing editor of the Iowa Alumni Quarterly magazine.

In her new position, Griffith will work as the liaison between the UI Alumni Association and its nearly 80 Iowa Clubs worldwide. She will also oversee the Career Information Network, and she will manage reunion weekends, outreach events, student member activities, special event weekends, and the alumni band.

A Crawfordsville, Iowa, native, Griffith earned her degree in history and political science from Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant and has completed graduate coursework at UI. Prior to working for the Alumni Association, Griffith was a licensing assistant for the UI men’s athletics department.

Also, Janice Baldes joined the association in March as a half-time graphic designer for the communications department. A native of Elk River, Minn., Baldes graduated from Moorhead State University with a bachelor’s degree in art. Before moving to Iowa City in 1997, Baldes worked as a graphic designer for the Braas Company in Edina, Minn. She continues to work for Braas and other clients as a freelancer and operates her own graphic design business, SED Graphics, from her home.
