University of Iowa President Mary Sue Coleman will be in Des Moines Wednesday, May 5 for two speaking engagements. Members of the news media are invited to attend those events:

• Meeting of the Downtown Des Moines Kiwanis Club, 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Embassy Club Nollen Plaza, Capitol Square Building, 400 Locust Street, Suite 100. President Coleman will be the guest speaker for the annual meeting at which the Kiwanis Club honors top students from Des Moines area high schools.

• Informal meeting with students at Des Moines Central Academy, 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. The Central Academy offers a variety of programs through which advanced students in the Des Moines schools can develop their academic talents.

Minority students from the Central Academy participate in the Iowa Talent Project, which is a program of Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development, located at the University of Iowa College of Education. Five of the six Iowa Talent Project senior students will be attending the UI next fall.
