Registration begins April 1 for UI summer wildlife camps

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Division of Recreational Services is offering several wildlife camps for area youth at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area this summer.

Fledgling Camps are offered for children entering second grade this fall and provide an introductory camp experience. Hawk, Eagle, Falcon and Otter Camps are for children entering third to sixth grades and focus on woodlands, wetlands, prairies/endangered species, and outdoor recreation skills, respectively.

Owl Camp is a natural history science camp for youth entering seventh or eighth grades. "Peregrinatio per Iowam" ("A wandering through Iowa") is a three-day northeast Iowa natural history trip for ninth to tenth graders. And the Kestrel Corps is a "counselor-in-training" experience for high school juniors and seniors.

Transportation to the Macbride nature area is provided from the UI Recreation Building, Bowman Woods Elementary School (Marion), and Prairie Heights Elementary School (Cedar Rapids). Children can also be dropped off at the nature area.

Registration begins Thursday, April 1. For more information or for brochures regarding these opportunities, contact UI Recreational Services at (319) 335-9293 or visit its Web site at
