Tickets available for Koop's visit to UI lung cancer seminar
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Free tickets are still available for former United
States Surgeon General C. Everett Koop's presentation Friday at a symposium
on lung and esophageal cancer and the impact of smoking.
Dr. Koop will discuss public health and the tobacco lobby in a lecture
entitled, "Anatomy of a Scandal" at 8 p.m. Friday at Hancher
Auditorium on the University of Iowa campus.
Persons interested in obtaining tickets should call the Hancher box
office at (319) 335-1160. Callers may reserve a limit of six tickets per
person. All tickets must be picked up in person.
The symposium, "Thoracic Malignancies: Prevention, Early Diagnosis
and Treatment," is being held Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Memorial
Health care professionals from throughout the Midwest are expected to
attend the symposium, which will highlight new trials, future directions
of therapy and public health issues related to tobacco use. Various specialists
in the fields of cancer, public health, gene therapy and radiologic imaging
will address the conference.
Educational conference sponsors include the departments of surgery and
internal medicine in the UI College of Medicine, and the UI Cancer Center.
The Children's Hospital of Iowa, UI Hospitals and Clinics, and the UI Cancer
Center sponsor the children's portion of the conference. Bristol-Myers
Squibb Pharmaceutical Company is contributing major financial support.
