Applications sought for Cleary International Dissertation Research
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Applications are now being accepted for the 1999-2000
T. Anne Cleary International Dissertation Research Fellowship, which provides
funds for UI doctoral students to conduct research outside of the United
States. The application deadline is April 2.
The fellowship was created by the UI Graduate Council in 1993 to honor
the late T. Anne Cleary, associate vice president for academic affairs
and professor of psychological and quantitative foundations, for her strong
commitment to the ideals of international education.
The competition is open to all doctoral candidates who will have completed
all pre-dissertation requirements by Sept. 15, including the comprehensive
exam and approval of a dissertation topic. The award provides support primarily
for travel, subsistence and/or research expenses. In some cases, stipend
and/or tuition support may also be awarded. Fellowships typically provide
$1,500 to $5,000, but proposals for support of up to $15,000 will be considered.
Applications are reviewed by a faculty awards committee, which makes
a recommendation to the dean of the Graduate College, who makes the final
