IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Theresa Dunkin of North Liberty received the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) Pharmacy Technician of the Year award during the association's annual meeting on June 12 in Cedar Rapids.

The newly-created award was established to recognize a pharmacy technician in Iowa who has demonstrated active involvement in the IPA and enthusiasm for the profession of pharmacy in Iowa.

A certified technician since 1994, Dunkin is chair of the IPA's Pharmacy Technician Advisory Committee. She has been instrumental in getting technicians interested in IPA activities and encouraging their involvement. She also serves on the IPA board of trustees as the pharmacy technician representative.

She is responsible for the Iowa Health Professions Inventory, a series of computerized tracking systems that maintains information on Iowa's physicians, dentists, pharmacists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

The IPA is the state society representing the profession of pharmacy, united for the purpose of advancing public health, particularly the pharmaceutical care of all Iowans. The association is organized to preserve and advance the interests of the profession and to serve the needs of pharmacists, pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians.
