UI engineer receives national educator award
IOWA CITY, Iowa Sharif Rahman, assistant professor of mechanical
engineering in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, recently was
named co-winner of the 1999 Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award from
the Mechanics Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
The award was presented during the June 20-23 ASEE Annual Conference
and Exposition in Charlotte, N.C. The ASEE annually recognizes the outstanding
accomplishments of engineering and engineering technology educators through
the ASEE awards program.
Rahman, who joined the college faculty in 1995, has research interests
in probabilistic mechanics and reliability, computational fracture and damage
mechanics, and reliability-based design and optimization.
