Human rights scholar to present HR '98 lecture Jan. 28

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Human rights scholar John Dugard, professor emeritus at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa will present a free and public lecture at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 in the Levitt Auditorium located in the Boyd Law Building.

Dugard's lecture, "Dealing with Crimes of the Past: The South African Experience," will be presented as part of Global Focus: HR'98, the UI's yearlong commemoration of various human rights events. Dugard, professor of public international law at the University of Leiden in The Netherlands, is visiting the UI Jan. 22-30 and is this year's John F. Murray Distinguished Lecturer.

He is the author of "International Criminal Law and Procedure," "Last Years of Apartheid: Civil Liberties in South Africa," and "Human Rights and the South African Legal Order."
